Dampwood Termites

Habitat

Dampwood Termites

Swarms are common in fall, especially after a rain, usually in the early evening. Damp wood termites will only inhabit wood that is saturated 22-28% in moisture and is beginning to rot. Usually they are found in old stumps, weather exposed decks, bathroom floors or tub enclosures that have severe moisture problems. It's usually recommended to repair the damaged wood, in lieu of insecticide treatments.

Identification

The winged reproductive termites are dark reddish brown and have two pairs of equal sized wings that extend beyond the body.

Full-grown workers are soft-bodied, wingless, blind and creamy white.

Soldiers look the same as the full-grown workers, but the head of the soldier is enormously elongated, brownish, hard and equipped with two jaws.

Testimonials

"Chuck's pest control does a great job. A year ago we had a problem with ants coming into the house. We tried different products which did no good and then called Chuck. They are very professional and came out several times during the year to re-treat and make sure we weren't having any more problems. Haven't seen an ant in the house since..."
