Thatching Ant

Habitat

Thatching Ant

Thatching ants are sometimes referred to as "mound" ants because some species construct mounds from small sticks, grass stems, leaves, and pine or fir needles. They may also nest in decayed logs. Under most circumstances, thatching ants should be considered beneficial, since they are fierce predators of other insects. However, where they occur in lawns, rockeries, picnic areas, and other locations of human habitation, they can become a severe annoyance. Additionally, they are often injurious to seedling trees or plants near their nests, and they have been known to damage the buds of apple, pear, and plum in the spring. The landscape can be visually disrupted by the presence of their mounds. Physical contact with them is also displeasing, since they can bite quite hard and usually spray the area they have bitten with formic acid to produce a painful sensation or even blistering if the skin is not washed.

Identification

Most species of thatching ants are bicolored red and black. A few are all black. They are medium to large ants, averaging from 4–8mm (3/16–5/16 inch) long, with a notch or depression on the top of the thorax when viewed from the side. They are polymorphic, that is, the workers vary in size within the same colony. Their reproductive swarms (winged males and queens leaving the colony) occur in late summer to early fall.

Safe and Effective Pest Control

Chuck Sullivan's method of application and choice of products is safe for your family and pets but eliminates the bug problems.

Ants. They're a problem.

No matter how your home is constructed, where it's located, or how old it is, it could be invaded by ants. Expansion joints, foundation cracks, and tiny gaps around plumbing are all opportunities for pests to enter your home. It's a frustrating problem for millions of homeowners. In fact, ants are the number one "nuisance pest" in the U.S. and one that seems to multiply faster by the hour. They enter homes because that's where the food and water are.

Chances are that the ants in your house actually have their nest outside yet travel back and forth for food and water. So, since they live outdoors, it makes sense to control them there.

Termidor Ant Control is applied to the exterior foundation walls of your house, creating a treated area of protection.

Why are Termidor and Phantom the best pesticides for getting rid of ants in your home or commercial building?

An effective ant control program begins by conducting a thorough inspection by a pest control expert who can determine the best extermination treatment program for ant removal in your home, yard or commercial building. After the inspection, an integrated pest exterminator plan that includes the Inside-Out Program may be recommended. Inside-Out offers effective control with two leading-edge products: Termidor for undetectable ant control outside and Phantom for undetectable control inside.

Undetectables: A Proven Solution.

In the past several years, the professional pest control industry has been revolutionized by new control technologies, especially in the area of nonrepellents or "undetectable" liquid treatments. Unlike older insecticides, undetectables can't be smelled, tasted, or even felt by pests. So they crawl through the treated area, not knowing that by ingesting treated materials or merely contacting the insecticide, they'll die.

Termidor is unique because ants not directly exposed to the Termidor-treated area will be controlled as they come into contact with affected ants. This "Transfer Effect" means you'll see its effects on ants in one to three days, most species will be removed within the first week following treatment and 100% will be eliminated within three months. Plus, Chuck Sullivan Exterminators provides a worry-free All Pest Service Guarantee.

Termidor and Phantom are the best way to get rid of ants in your house or yard and are pet friendly and safe for children.
