Carpenter Ant Identification
Carpenter ants vary in size and color but are usually large (1/4-1/2 inch) and are black. Occasionally, swarms of winged carpenter ants will emerge inside your home. One way to identify Carpenter ants is to observe if the ants are all different sizes. This means they are polymorphic. Carpenter ants are polymorphic and black, sometimes with a burgundy thorax (middle body part). Carpenter ant swarms usually occur in the spring and are a sure sign that a colony is nesting somewhere near or even inside your home.
Habitat
Carpenter ants damage wood by hollowing it out for nesting. They excavate tunnels in wood which have a smooth, sandpapered appearance. Shredded fragments of wood, similar in appearance to coarse sawdust, are ejected from the tunnels through preexisting cracks or slits made by the ants. When such accumulations are found it’s a good indication that a carpenter ant nest is adjacent to this area.
Carpenter ants nest in both moist and dry wood but prefer wood which is moist. Consequently, the nests are more likely to be found in wood dampened by water leaks, such as around sinks, bathtubs, leaking windows/door frames, roof leaks and poorly flashed
Treatment
Using some of the least toxic and most effective products for ant control on the market, we pride ourselves on bringing you ant control treatments that exceed industry standards.
Pest Stop’s method of application and choice of products that are the least toxic for your family and pets but eliminates the bug problems. No matter how your home is constructed, where it’s located, or how old it is, it could be invaded by ants. Expansion joints, foundation cracks, and tiny gaps around plumbing are all opportunities for pests to enter your home. It’s a frustrating problem for millions of homeowners. In fact, ants are the number one “nuisance pest” in the U.S. and one that seems to multiply faster by the hour. They enter homes because that’s where the food and water are. Chances are that the ants in your house actually have their nest outside yet travel back and forth for food and water. So, since they live outdoors, it makes sense to control them there. Ant control insecticide is applied to the exterior foundation walls of your house, creating a treated area of protection.

Common Questions:
- What treatment is the best method for getting rid of ants in your home or commercial building?
An effective ant control program begins by conducting a thorough inspection by a pest control expert who can determine the best extermination treatment program for ant removal in your home, yard or commercial building. After the inspection, an integrated pest exterminator plan that includes the Inside-Out Program may be recommended. Inside-Out offers effective control with two leading-edge products: both for undetectable ant control inside and out.
- Why Are Undetectable’s A Proven Solution?
In the past several years, the professional pest control industry has been revolutionized by new control technologies, especially in the area of non-repellents or “undetectable” liquid treatments. Unlike older insecticides, they can’t be smelled, tasted, or even felt by pests. So they crawl through the treated area, not knowing that by ingesting treated materials or merely contacting the insecticide, they’ll die. Ants not directly exposed to the treated area will be controlled as they come into contact with affected ants. This “Transfer Effect” means you’ll see its effects on ants in one to three days, most species will be removed within the first week following treatment and 100% will be eliminated within three months. Plus, Pest Stop provides a worry-free All Pest Service Guarantee.
